Be Your Best Friend...
...Yeah I'll Love You Forever/
Colorado Springs, Colorado PWR Justice -- World Arena
Jessica was in shock at the scene before her; F n’ A had been taken out of commission for the night thanks to Dominator, Romulus, and some monstrous woman who could‘ve easily broken Arkia‘s spine if she hadn‘t been held back. She blinked a few times, listened to what The Final Solution had to say. Then she made her way up the ramp. Looks like karma finally surfaced, she thought, and shook her head as she moved past the curtains. Thus, her celebration in the ring was short lived but the victory remained nonetheless. She and her team mates eventually went their separate ways once backstage. Jessica found herself wandering back to her modest dressing room with a huge smile on her face. She wanted to share her excitement with someone, anyone. Luckily for her Joseph Brown, her agent and manager, was searching for her near the vending machines.
“You did it Jess! This is what I’m talkin’ about! You PINNED Ken Fuqua!” Joseph was so elated with excitement that when he squeezed his client Jessica in a tight hug, his southern drawl was more obvious than usual. “You were amazing out there!”
He truly meant each and every word. To think he had to bribe her with a video game to get her to do good in the ring. Well it was worth the effort. Jessica pulled through for her entire team, kept good on her promise to deliver. She was a star glistening with victory, and her performance rate had just gone up yet another notch. Joseph’s eyes were literally gleaming with dollar signs.
Jessica’s smile was genuine when Joseph released her. She couldn’t believe her amazing luck. “Yea, I was, wasn’t I? I mean, that was so totally cool. I can’t believe I did that!” she screamed in glee and almost hopped up and down like a teenager. “I did fuckin awesome!” They made their way back to her room after turning a few corners. Jessica shut the door closed behind herself.
“This is exactly the type of positive press we need. Your name will be buzzing around the entire wrestling world for the next few days,” Joseph revealed. He placed gentle hands on each of her shoulders to keep her still. “This is yet another step in the right direction.”
“You really think so?” Jessica asked as she freed herself from Joseph’s light grasp plopped down on the couch. She unceremoniously tossed off her boots and pulled off her top in one yanking motion. Joseph turned around before he could catch a complete peek at her tiny pink bra.
“I know so Jess. This is good, very good. You‘ll be PWR‘s hottest rookie commodity in no time.”
“I thought Fuji-cakes had that role down already.” She quickly discarded the rest of her wrestling attire and slipped into torn denim jeans and an old beat up Mario Brothers tank. She wrapped a short leather jacket on and pulled her hair down from the high ponytail it’d been in, shaking it so her naturally brown locks fell loosely on her shoulders. “You can turn around now,” she informed him casually.
Joseph obliged and commented, “There’s always room for a little competition, even if the two of you are new friends.”
“So, um, what do we do now?” Jessica asked eagerly.
“We wait and see who you’ll be facing next. Then, we‘ll go from there.” The hunger in his voice was palpable.

Latrisha Lamarte Angeles’ glacial blue eyes were fixed on one television screen among many in the back of a PWR production truck. Justice had gone off air and William, the so-called World Champion, was being helped out of the arena after getting his ball sack forcefully shoved into his anus thanks to her amazing kicking skills. She rolled her eyes in disgust and fanned her beautiful face with her hand. Weakness; the entire federation was running rampant with the stench, and it was all thanks to Paradigm Shit.
They were sneaking behind Nick’s back every week, undermining The Cabinet’s plan of domination. It almost made her regret going into retirement to accept the Vice Presidential position in the company. Almost, but not quite. She had far more power as the VP than she did as an acting member of the roster, and power was almost as enchanting to Latrisha as money.
“This van is hot. What the hell do you guys do in here? Bake bread?” she hissed and the glances she received from the staff in the truck were cautious. “Make sure you pack this shit up tight boys,” she ordered them in her usual authoritative manner as she begun to head for the exit and they happily nodded, more than likely glad she was leaving the vicinity.
The sound of her expensive Michael Kors heels echoed through the backstage area of the World Arena as she strutted past the locker rooms. Most of the wrestler’s who hadn’t been involved in the main event were gone. Everyone else was in the process of leaving including her. Her husband Bradley sat in her assigned office of the evening and greeted her when she came inside. “Nice show,” he casually commented from the couch he sat on.
“I especially loved the end. Fucking fabulous. That pretty boy William didn‘t know what hit him. That‘ll teach him to steal the spotlight of my show. Bastard.” She closed the door behind herself and sauntered over to the mirror to check out her reflection. The heat in the back of the production truck had made her sweat a little. Thank God she was a natural beauty and didn’t need much make up.
“Have you told Nick about the proposition we received?” Brad inquired, cutting directly to the chase.
Latrisha gave her husband a questioning look and then grinned when she realized what he was talking about. “Oh yes, I informed him of it, but are you really alright with it? You know I won’t do it without your approval, darling.” She turned and approached him.
“I’m happy for you,” he told her and sounded genuine about it. “My whole reason for wanting you to retire was for the sake of us spending time alone as a couple-- and God knows we did with you being able to use the company jet and all that-- but I kinda realized it’s not fair for me to ask you to give all this up. It wasn’t easy for me to come to this decision, believe me, but I don’t want you to look back five years later and regret not going for this. Besides, I think it’s about time you received a spot there. I’m just surprised this opportunity didn’t come around sooner.”
Latrisha placed a hand on his shoulder and smiled. “You know what they say; all in due time, and all of that jazz. I’m just happy it’s not affecting our relationship as much as I thought it would. You’ve been a good husband, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. It hasn’t been easy, but we pulled through some pretty rough times. I think we can survive this too. With Jessica here I feel confident enough to leave Phoenix Wrestling Revolution. My legacy will live on through my little Southern tart.”
Bradley furrowed his brow. “You know she won’t last long without you around, right? Joseph is reaching the end of his fuse. I can’t keep torturing the man, Trish. He told me he had to bribe her to win tonight with a Japanese puzzle game, a fucking game,” he told her and slid his arms around her waist as he did so.
“Yes, yes, the Katamari Damacy thing,“ Latrisha replied, already knowing the name thanks to Jessica herself. “Don’t worry, I’ve got a plan in place to make sure Jessica does not fail. It‘s not sound proof, but I think she‘ll have more self confidence if she has someone she thinks is trustworthy in her corner.”
“Who‘d you have in mind?”
Latrisha sat on her husband’s lap, teasing him as she swept her fingers through his black wavy hair. “Fujiko Mine.”

Days later Jessica was still cheerful from obtaining a victory. Deep down inside she never thought she’d be able to do something so amazing. Now her confidence was lifted, if only temporarily, and she was on cloud nine. There was only one thing that could make her even more elated she thought, as she took a hot shower and put on the first ensemble she could create out of the balled up clothing she had in her suitcase. Thus when she emerged from the bedroom of the snazzy hotel suite she and Joseph occupied, she was wearing a Star Wars t-shirt and a pair of black acid skinny jeans.
She absently hopped on the red couch and turned on the play station 3 system laid out on the dark wooden table. She did one of her favorite things to do in the world-- played video games until she got hungry. Then she ordered room service. A steak, potato, and a side salad worked nicely for lunch. She knew Joseph would bitch about the red meat, but at least she hadn’t ordered a greasy pizza she thought dismissively, and went back to playing games.
Joseph himself was out conducting business, probably getting her some sort of campaign with a big make-up company, or whatever else agent’s did. Jessica didn’t know too much about the business aspect of professional wrestling, nor did she care to. As long as she got out there to wrestle little else mattered. As if on cue Joseph came walking into the suite soon after that. He took off his coat and hung it by the door. He didn’t seem as happy as he did days ago, but he wasn’t completely bummed either, Jessica noted. She cut off her PS3 when Joseph sat next to her and gave her a serious glare.
“Good news, bad news Jess,” he begun speaking in a business-like manner. “First off, I’ve been emailed the pictures from the photo shoot you and El Gallego did last week and they look lovely. You come off as a fresh faced cutie with a massive interest in video games and other hobbies teenage boys like. You‘ll become popular with PWR‘s general demographic in no time.”
Jessica smiled but would‘ve preferred the bad news first. “That’s the only good news?”
“Yes,” Joseph promptly replied and braced himself for Jessica’s reaction to what he wanted to tell her next. He chose his words wisely. “You’ll be in a three way match this week at the Justice before the Super Show. You and your opponents will have one person as an acting manager for the night in your corner.”
“Who’ll be in my corner? Who are the other two people?”
“Fu-je-ko will be in your corner. That’s a good thing,” Joseph pointedly shared as he mispronounced Fujiko’s name. “She’ll have your back.”
“Right, but who am I facing?” Jessica curiously repeated her question.
Joseph sighed. “Chastity McGavin and Arkia Fisk.”
“Chastity? Who is tha- wait- that chick in The Final Solution AND Arkia?! This can’t be happening!” Jessica shrieked as she heard the name of her two opponents and shot up from the couch. “DID YOU SEE HOW BIG THAT CHICK WAS? I don’t wanna face her! WHY DO I HAVE TO FACE TWO BIG ASS MANISH LOOKIN’ WOMEN! Those chicks belong on that Ru Paul show! What’s it called? DRAG RACE!”
“Jess, c’mon. You’ll have your friend Fu-je-ko in your corner,” Joseph gently consoled her and completely messed up Mine’s name again in the process, “you can do this. You’re strong. You’re confident. You’re Jessica Fuckin’ James!” he told her, attempting to egg her on.
Jessica wailed like a baby. “It’s impossible!” she told him and threw herself down on the couch in dramatic fashion. “Let’s just cut our losses and run, ‘kay?” she sniffled.
“No! NO!” Joseph suddenly shouted angrily. “I am not giving up that easy! I worked too hard to make you a believable threat!” Joseph grabbed Jessica’s limp body and tossed her over his shoulder. She was a slender girl so it wasn’t hard for him to carry her over to the door.
“Where are you taking me?” Jessica weakly asked as they exited the threshold of their suite.
“I’m takin’ you to the gym. Fu-gee‘s meeting us there to give you some tips.”
“She’s not Obi-wan so who cares! I‘m doomed! The dark side wins again!”

Hungry eyes begun to drift to the woman walking through the door and with good reason. Fujiko Mine was very easy on the eyes. She had silky chestnut colored hair and eyes to match. Her skin was gently tanned and her body was all curves, no fat. Rarely did she ever need make up or anything else to improve her nearly flawless features. She was the epitome of what society thought the ideal beauty should look like, and the aura of sexuality that oozed off of her as she made her way to the main lobby was undeniable. Fujiko wore a form fitting velour track suit, all pink, with a pair of sneakers to match. She normally enjoyed accessories and fine jewelry but there was no need for that this day. She was there because of the phone call she received that same morning from Joseph Brown.
She was more than happy to help Jessica James out.
They were new friends after all, and she sincerely thought Jessica was a sweet girl. Sure Jess had confidence issues and she didn‘t seem too bright, but that was okay. It was refreshing to see someone humble in the wrestling world which was so bloated with entitled bitches who thought way too highly of themselves. Considering how much they had in common it was no wonder they became close; Jessica was Latrisha’s protégé, and she, Tj Jones’. They both enjoyed playing video games and twittering as much as possible, although, Fujiko was a bit concerned when Jessica told her she owned more than two hundred Japanese video games.
“Hi,” Fujiko addressed the man sitting behind the main desk of Planet Fitness. “I’m meeting a Jessica James here. Did she arrive yet?”
The man seemed flustered. “..Uh, she came a half hour a-ago. Uh, you can uh, go right in m-miss.”
Fujiko winked at the poor man and proceeded inside. After turning a few corners and poking her head into a few of the private rooms she found Jessica lifting weights with her manager Joseph Brown. “Fuji!” Jessica called out to her when she saw her face. “You’re here!”
“I just got in. Sup?” Fujiko entered and closed the door behind herself. It was obvious the long room with tall mirrors from end to end was normally a ballet studio. Fuji noted that Jessica wasn’t exactly wearing what she thought of as work out clothes, unless a star wars t-shirt and black jeans had suddenly become the in-thing.
“Joseph is trying to kill me,” Jessica revealed and placed the fifty pound weight she’d been holding on the polished floor. “I’m exhausted, but I feel like, stronger somehow. I guess that‘s a good thing, huh?”
Fujiko briefly nodded and spread her arms out to hug Jessica. They held each other for a brief moment before separating, both with wide smiles on their faces. “A very good thing. You ready to win your match this week?”
“Win? PPFFT! I’ll be happy if I can survive-- or am I crazy for being super intimidated by those two monsters?” Jessica asked.
Fuji shrugged and the pearly white teeth in her mouth gleamed as she cracked a slight smile. She knew Jess was going to have a tough time facing Arkia and the new chick Phoenix the same night. Fuck, anybody would have a tough time with those two. “I think you gotta work hard this week, but you can do it.”
“Yes!” Joseph pumped his fist. “You can do this Jess. See, even Fujiko thinks so,” Joseph proudly declared, finally getting Fuji’s name right after practicing for their encounter.
Jessica’s big brown eyes were filled with doubt as they drifted between her manager and her friend. “I dunno guys. What would you do Fuji?”
“I’d listen to my gut instinct and say a big ‘fuck you’ to all the haters,” Mine answered honestly.
Jessica’s snorted. “Good idea. That’s if I had any haters to begin with.”
“Please Jess, Arkia has nothing on you. And Chastity? Who the hell is that anyways? So what if she attacked Arkia from behind last week? By the way-- bitch deserved that-- but to me that sounds like something a coward would do. That shit is weak as hell.”
Jessica gave Fujiko a considering look. “Yeah, it does sound a little weak. I mean, I would never attack someone from behind. That’s just so mean. Why not attack them head on so they can see exactly who’s wantin’ to whip their ass? I never got the sneaky approach. I mean, maybe that’s because I was raised from a martial arts background, but ya know, I just always saw that as a disrespectful thing to do to somebody.”
“I feel you. I think were both on the same page with that,” Fujiko agreed. “So, what do you say we start sparring? I’m sorta your manager this week, and if there‘s something Tj taught me it‘s that slacking will get you hurt real quick. I know you’re nice Jess, but were gonna need to get you in the right mind set to understand that, and fast.”
Jessica simply blinked at Fujiko’s sudden assertiveness. “Um, well, yeah ok. I guess.”
The ring was one in a separate building from the gym normally used for boxing. Fujiko’s smile was gone the moment she stepped in-between the ropes. The seriousness of the expression that crossed her features almost stopped Jessica in her tracks, whose face held a mixture of anticipation and curiosity. She was excited more than anything however, as she normally was when facing a formidable foe.
She knew the purpose of this sparring session was to prepare her for her match against Chastity and Arkia, but the fact remained that her good friend Fujiko was standing in the ring opposite from her. Jessica wasn’t sure if she could take that too seriously, but seeing as Fuji was taking time from her busy schedule to help her out, it was the very least she could do. So when they began circling the ring Jessica was a solemn as she’d ever be, with her mind focused on one thing and one thing only; wrestling.
Fujiko was the first to strike, lashing out at Jessica with a nasty right hook. Jessica used her speed to dodge the blow, backing up from Fuji quickly but still leaving herself enough room to maneuver herself away from the ropes. She and Fuji locked up after that and Fuji took Jessica to one knee with a crippling hold on her hand. Jessica fought her way up and went along with the flow as Fuji flung her against the ropes. She ducked Fujiko’s clothesline as practiced and then went for a drop kick that Mine quickly dodged. She hit the mat hard and Fuji capitalized by grabbing one of her legs and wrapping it up in a submission hold. Jessica struggled her way to the ropes and Joseph broke them up like a good referee would when she reached the bottom one.
They continued for a good long while, perspiration dripping off their faces, and their expressions changing from serious to joking with the flow of their moves. Jessica’s naturally happy demeanor couldn’t help but peek its way out of the battle every now and then, with the former karate prodigy cracking wise jokes every time she caught Fujiko in one of her intricate high flying combos. Fujiko brought her playful sexiness by taunting Jessica whenever she could lay her quick moving opponent down on the mat. She didn’t have a problem showing off her own high flying arsenal either, leaving Jessica breathless by the time she got done with a clean hurricanrana from the middle of the top rope.
When they were done they hugged again and laughed, feeling the heaviness of the atmosphere suddenly disappear. Joseph was pleased with Jessica’s performance in the ring and said as much as he left the women so they could enter the shower room. Afterwards they parted ways, and Jessica was once again in a hotel suite with her agent Joseph Brown sitting on the couch next to her.
“I’m pooped,” she told him in an equally pooped voice. “I hope I never have to face Fujiko head on. I swear, I don’t know what I’d do to beat her.”
“Something tells me the two of you won’t be on opposite sides of the ring anytime soon.”
<+> Salt Lake City, Utah Salt Lake Recital Hall
“Goodnight Moon” by Shivaree blared through the speakers, the bass of the tune vibrating as it made it’s way across the venue Phoenix Wrestling Revolution was holding its house show in. Jessica made her way through the curtains and stood at the top of the ramp, waving at the crowd for a moment, mockingly placing her hand above her eyes as if she were searching the fans. She received a good loud pop from the people in attendance as one of the few certified PWR Superstars to greet them that day among the hopefuls searching for a place in the company. Hurriedly she made her way down the ramp and slid underneath the bottom rope before swiftly climbing up on the top turnbuckle in one corner and waving to the fans more. She hopped down and ran over to another corner, repeating the action before being handed a microphone from the announcer.
“Hey Utah! How goes it ya’ll?” Jessica asked the pumped up crowd and got a rather loud response of cheers. “My name’s Jessica James…” she smiled at the reaction she got from that, “and I’m here for one reason, and one reason only; to give Arkia Fisk and Chastity McGavin a piece of my mind.”
“Ya know, I’ve been worrying myself about my match all week. That’s justifiable considering I lost to Arkia last time and Chastity is as visually impressive as they come. However, I thought about it, fret over it, and finally, just shoved it into my back pocket and told myself WHO CARES!” she shouted and got a pop.
“So what if Arkia won last time we faced each other? This is a new opportunity for me, and the dynamic of this match compared to the last one is completely different. I don’t think I’ll have to rub it into Arkia’s wounds that Chastity laid her butt out flat, but there it is. Arkia may still be the tallest in the ring, but this won’t be anything like a one-on-one encounter. Then again, I don’t think the ole girl is really all that worried, because she’ll have her buddy Ken on the outside rooting for her. Everybody already knows those two have no qualms about cheating. Chastity’ll have Dominator on her team. I’m not sure about those two, because you never really know somebody till you get them in the ring. And as for me? I’ll have none other than the wonderful Fujiko Mine on my side.”
On cue “Conceited” by Remy Ma played and a huge spotlight displayed Fujiko standing near the entrance. She walked down the ramp with the crowd cheering as she playfully blew kisses at them and the cameras. She seductively made her way up the ramp and stepped in-between the ropes to cat calls and whistles. Jessica smiled as Fuji approached and they gave each other a quick hug. Mine had a mic of her own in her hand. “Hey girl. Thought I’d join you out here in trashing your opponents this week.”
“Please do,” Jessica responded.
“I remember telling Arkia the first time we ever stepped in the ring with each other that she’d remember my name by the time I was done with her. Suffice to say, I kept good on my promise. My name has been on her lips almost every week after that. Seems like any chance she gets, she’s name droppin’, bashing me left and right. The thing is, I don’t give home girl the same pleasure,” Fujiko said confidently, a cocky smirk on her lips. “That’s kinda what I’ve been trying to tell you all week, Jess. Girls like Arkia, they want you to waste time sitting there worrying about them. They play mind games. They expect people to fear them. But you and me? We don’t have to fear. Why? Because we’ve got heart, we’ve got soul, and more important than anything else, we’ve got the FANS behind us cheering us on!”
The crowd did as much, some standing on their feet and holding up their signs. Fujiko waited a moment for the noise to subside before she continued. “This week you’ll have me in your corner Jess. I’ll watch out for you. I’ll make sure Ken and The Dominator don’t mess up your chance to get yet another victory in your back pocket-- but I’m pretty sure Ken is still frustrated after you pinned him last week.”
“That wasn’t my fault! How was I to know I could do that?” Jessica playfully responded. “I’m just a lil girl from Memphis with bright stars in my eyes. But you know what? I think I’m getting the hang of PWR now. I understand what you mean with Arkia too. She even had the audacity to say people like you and I were beneath her last week.” Fujiko shook her head in disbelief.
“Seeing as she was on the losing side of that conquest, I think she’ll have to swallow her bile a bit.”
Jessica nodded. “You know what, I’m not even gonna stoop to her level and resort to name calling. This week, I’ve prepared myself mentally and physically. I went through the motions, doubting myself at every turn. Sometime though, a woman has to stand up and believe in herself and her abilities. I’m a survivor, always have been always will be. Till you’ve walked a mile in my shoes you couldn’t possibly understand the things I went through-- still going through. I’m stronger than I ever thought I could be, and I want to say thank you to you Arkia. Because it’s really your fault I’m going to give it my all this time. Isn’t that right you guys?” she asked the crowd and many cheered once more.
“As for Chastity McGavin; I don’t really know her. I’ll say she made an impressive debut last week, but that sneaking people from behind stuff made me a little wary about her. She’s strong, she’s beautiful, and she certainly doesn’t need The Final Solution to do well here in PWR, so why? I dunno. There’s no better place for me to get to know her up close and personal in the ring though. I’m always up to meeting new people. So here’s to me greeting yet another female addition to the PWR roster. I’ll properly introduce her to my fist. Fuji-cakes, you can do the same if things pop off badly.”
Fujiko Mine laughed. “If things go bad it won’t matter if Arkia, Ken, Dominator, AND Chastity jump us all at once, we’ll still come up swinging!”
“Arkia, Chastity-- May the best WOMAN win!” Jessica shouted over the microphone and “Goodnight Moon” blared over the P.A. system. Before the two women could leave the ring the music cut off and another familiar tune started. “Popular” by The Veronicas replaced Jessica’s tune and the crowd immediately took a sour turn. Boos echoed through the Salt Lake City Recital Hall as PWR Vice President and former World Champion Latrisha waltzed out from behind the curtains. Wrapped in an expensive leather black dress she sashayed down the ramp, soaking in the hatred before having a stage hand hold the middle rope for her to step in-between the ropes.
“You can stay, ladies,” Latrisha told a puzzled looking Jessica and Fujiko. The women obliged. Jessica handed her mentor the mic she had as Fujiko shrugged at the crowd. They remained in the ring off to the side as Latrisha begun to pace back and forth with a sinister grin on her pink lips.
“First off, I want you to know that I’m here to support my lovely protégé,” she acknowledged Jessica with a slight nod. “Oh, and you too mount Fuji, or whatever you name is.” Fujiko made a face but Jessica whispered something to her as she placed a hand on her friend’s shoulder, obviously trying to hold her back. “I think you’re both highly talented and have a bright, bright future. However, I can’t say that about all of the women in Phoenix Wrestling Revolution. Of course, there’s the annoying Paradigm Shift member, Georgie Nickles. Her future is about as bleak as the possibility of 90210 making a return to the CW for a second season,” she said and instantly received boo’s for insulting the popular Nickles. “It’s not my fault she signed herself up to a loser leaves town match so please, spare me the bullshit!”
Latrisha smiled as she listened to the hecklers in the audience. “Then we have the newcomer, Chastity McGavin, whom I’ve heard nothing but glowing compliments about. Have you seen this woman? She’s amazing. No match for my sweet southern tart Jessica, but amazing none-the-less. Then last and very least, we have Arkia Fisk. I don’t normally address crusty, insignificant ants, but seeing as how I can do anything I want to at any given time, I’m going to let you in on a trade secret; if you want to be as successful as I am in life never, ever, let me hear my fucking name leaving your mouth again.”
“To put it quite bluntly, I have more power and talent in my thumb than you have ever had in your pathetic atypical underprivileged African American life. A mouth like Muhammad Ali and looks beyond Halle Berry? Oh, you must mean Muhammad post Parkinson‘s. That would make more sense. I wont comment on your beyond Halle Berry quote, because it’s obvious God must’ve spent a little less time on you than you’d like to believe. Here’s my thing though-- while you have to search for less than stellar people to compare yourself, I am beyond likeness. Original. Fresh. Spectacular.”
“Thank you for all the supposed kind words you had to say about me in the past Arkia, but really, flattery will get you nowhere with me. I only listen to the opinions of people who actually matter in my life. It would be in your best interest to catch a clue and quickly, because if you think about it Arkia, as Vice President of this company, I already own your fucking life.”
She dropped the mic and the crowd booed again as her music played. Jessica and Fujiko followed suit as she left the ring and walked up the ramp, a smirk still on her lips. When they were backstage again Latrisha briefly addressed them and then went off in a separate direction. Jessica leaned over to Fujiko after the encounter, still reeling from the shock of it.
“Welp, there goes my chance at making new friends.”
